Ones 2 Watch: Folk

If you think folk music is all just white people with dreadlocks, bearded old guys and unfortunate sartorial choices like socks and sandals, well haven’t we got a surprise for you!

Folk 21’s Sara and Holly each give us their tip for up and coming folk artists who are playing in Birmingham and the surrounding areas this month.

Sunjay

Holly’s tip…

Sunjay is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist from Stourbridge in the West Midlands.

Winner of the Wath Festival Young Performers Award, Sunjay also made the final selection for the BBC’s Young Folk Award in 2012.

He’ll be in Bromsgrove on the 14th April, Wolverhampton on the 20th May and Stourbridge on the 26th May with his blend of folk and blues.

Jack Blackman

Sara’s tip…

Jack Blackman is one of the UK’s leading young blues guitarists.

He has received airplay nationally and internationally for his finger style guitar playing and soulful song writing.

He is currently studying at Leeds College of Music and working on his 3rd album, but he’ll be out and about in the coming weeks!

He’ll be in Alcester on the 10th and 15th of April and 15th May, Bromsgrove on the 16th April and the Red Lion Folk Club in Birmingham on the 27th April.
